MSNBC’s Joy Reid compared former President Trump to deadly cult leader Jim Jones as well as genocidal dictators Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler in her latest attack on Republicans on Monday.

Trump appeared at a rally in Youngstown, Ohio on Saturday to support Senate candidate JD Vance. A panel on Reid’s show, including columnist Will Bunch and Mother Jones Washington bureau chief David Corn, discussed what they saw as several connections to the QAnon conspiracy group, including music played in the background.

Bunch suggested this is further proof that the Republican Party has completely turned into a cult.

“There is no escaping it, and we need to talk about it, as we see the leadership base of one of our two political parties transforming from a political party into a cult before our eyes,” he said. Bunch said.

He explained, “[Trump]is having a lot of trouble right now with the investigation into the documents, with the January 6 inquest getting closer. He’s seeing some of his support withdraw, so he wants to make the tougher core of supporters more enraged, more committed to him personally, and frankly, with some of those Qs who were more than willing to commit violence on his behalf. , and people should pay attention and be alarmed.”

Reid chimed in by suggesting that Trump himself has become a sort of “warlord” cult leader like Jim Jones with his efforts to rally supporters.

“I mean, it’s warlord. What he’s doing is because, like Will said, he’s in trouble. He’s decided to become a warlord, and he gathers his people around him much like Jim Jones, when under fire, decided to distribute Kool-Aid, much like the 1930s movement around Mussolini and the one around Hitler in Germany, let’s be honest,” Reid said.

She also cited Corn’s latest book where he claims the Republican Party has been “leaning” toward fascism for 70 years and blaming “millions” of Trump voters.

““The problem was the Republicans. The voters, the people, not just those few thousand in the rabid Jan. 6 crowd, but the millions who have accepted Trump’s irrational and unrealistic claims, who are looking to this hidden, selfish, crazed power for the truth. . “. Republican office holders devoted themselves to Trump because he possessed the allegiance of those voters. He had won over the Republican masses. His prejudices, his lies, his resentments were theirs. It is not just a Trump’s problem but a problem of the people who follow him,” Reid quoted.

Corn reiterated his assertion that Republican leaders have pushed more and more extremist policies and candidates over the years.

“They want red meat. They want the reddest meat possible. ‘I can do it.’ And he did it in 2016. It worked. It almost worked again in 2020. It’s an escalation that he’s now merging MAGA with Qanon. We should call it QMAGA or something, and y add Christian nationalism,” Corn said.

Reid has frequently attacked Trump and his supporters and compared them to controversial figures. In 2021, Reid compared Trump and his supporters to al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and his terrorist organization after the Jan. 6 riot on Capitol Hill.

Chinese officials banned from visiting Queen in state

Chinese authorities have been barred from visiting Westminster Hall because of the Queen’s bereavement, Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle told the BBC on Sunday.

The decision to ban the Chinese ambassador and accredited officials from attending Westminster Hall in Parliament came after seven British MPs and a peer were sanctioned by Beijing last year.

‘Holding a reception in the House of Commons when MPs and a peer have been disciplined is not acceptable,’ he said.

As the masses marched through the labyrinths of Southwark Park to collect their wristbands to allow them to pay their respects to Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster, Steward Rabia Sheikh cheered them on.

“Good afternoon, beautiful people,” said Sheikh, 33, smiling and in an increasingly hoarse voice, “You’re doing very well! Well done.”

A cozy Big Ben to punctuate the last days of mourning

The bell of Parliament’s iconic clock, known as Big Ben, will strike at 8 p.m. (3 p.m. ET) on Sunday to mark what the government has called a national moment of reflection.

The bell will then ring again after the end of the minute’s silence, according to a statement from parliament, with a silencer being used to produce a quieter tone. Big Ben will ring again on Monday at one-minute intervals as a huge motorcade leaves after the state funeral.

‘Dear Mum’: Prince Andrew’s personal tribute to the Queen

Prince Andrew, Queen Elizabeth II’s third child and second son, paid a personal tribute to the late monarch on Sunday.

“Mum, your love for a son, your compassion, your care, your trust that I will forever cherish,” the Duke of York said in a statement.

In recent years, Andrew has defended himself against allegations of sexual abuse of underage women through his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, who was convicted of procuring a child for prostitution.

In January, Buckingham Palace announced that Andrew was returning his military affiliations and royal patronages to his mother the Queen. In February, he settled a lawsuit with Virginia Giuffre, who alleged she was 17 when she was trafficked by Epstein and abused by Andrew.

‘It’s worth it’: Mourner who joined the line at 2.30am has no regrets

Dave Wheeler from Birmingham said he had collected a wristband which would allow him to see the Queen lying in state on Sunday around 2.30am (9pm Saturday ET) at Southwark Park, south London.

By 10 a.m. he had arrived near the London Eye, which is a short walk from Westminster Hall where Elizabeth’s coffin lies. He thought he still had a dozen hours of slow walking before he reached the queen.

“It’s worth it,” Wheeler, 71, said. “The greatest challenge facing King Charles is keeping the Commonwealth together. The queen was the glue.

More than 1,000 mourners received medical treatment

More than 1,000 people queuing to view the Queen’s coffin and surrounding areas have received medical treatment since Wednesday, the London Ambulance Service said on Sunday.

Of nearly 300 patients, 17 were taken to hospital on Wednesday, he said. That number had risen to 55 out of 400 on Saturday. Mourners lined up for hours, enduring the cooler weather.

The Queen’s love for animals went beyond corgis

They are decried in the United States as rats with wings. But in the UK, pigeons hold a more respected position as accomplished racers and little-known favorites of Queen Elizabeth II.

Long before the Queen became Britain’s longest reigning monarch, the young princess had a keen interest in animals of all shapes and sizes, including pigeons, horses and, of course, corgis.

She was also a keen sportswoman, often pictured angling in Scotland with Prince Philip or riding to the stables at Sandringham Estate. Her trademark printed scarves, tweeds and galoshes used on hunting, shooting and fishing expeditions were as recognizable as her handbags.

Prior to the reception, the King will meet the prime ministers of Tuvalu, Antigua and Barbuda and Papua New Guinea.

And at lunchtime, the King will host newly elected UK Prime Minister Liz Truss, also at Buckingham Palace.

Queen Elizabeth’s Complicated LGBTQ Legacy

In 1952, when Queen Elizabeth II took the throne after her father’s death, same-sex sexual relations were criminalized in Britain. The same laws were also brought to the Commonwealth countries he colonized.

At the time of her death, the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and homosexual rights landscape was radically different – at least in the UK – in part because she endorsed many pro-LGBTQ measures, such as the homosexual marriage.

This support led some to say she was a “quiet” supporter of LGBTQ rights, but to others she was just doing her job.

A man has been charged in connection with an incident at Westminster Hall on Friday, where the Queen was lying in state, London police said on Saturday.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested and charged with traveling to cause alarm, harassment or distress, according to a statement from London’s Metropolitan Police. He was due to appear in Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

A parliamentary spokesperson said one person had “left the queue and was heading to the Catafalque”, or raised platform.

The person was removed from the room and the queue resumed with “minimal disruption”, the spokesperson said.

The platform where the Queen’s coffin is displayed was guarded at all times by the Sovereign’s Bodyguards, Foot Guards or the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment.

Former NFL pro Jesse Palmer says hosting “The Bachelor” franchise is like playing quarterback.

“You just try to avoid drama at all times,” the ex-Giant told the Post. “It’s like trying not to get fired.”

On Sunday, instead of watching his former team’s season opener, Palmer, 43, will travel to Los Angeles to shoot the live Season 19 finale of “Bachelorette,” which airs Sept. 13-20 on ABC.

The Canadian native was hired as the franchise’s host in 2021 after Chris Harrison, who had been at the helm since ‘The Bachelor’ premiered in 2002, quit amid controversy after defending a ‘Bachelor’ contestant pictured during a an Antebellum-themed college party.

In 2004, when Palmer became the first professional athlete to star as “The Bachelor,” which was still a new television concept, he gave his teammates play-by-play.

“As you can imagine, we had a lot of fun with this,” said Palmer, who also works as a college football analyst for ESPN.

The popular franchise continues to bring football players back to the limelight as top men and competitors and he understands why.

“I think football players have a lot of personality. I think they feel good about themselves,” he said.

And like Bachelor Mansion, an NFL locker room can be a powder keg of emotion.

“You can’t even imagine how much drama there is,” he said.

Although he didn’t find lasting love on national television, he found it more than a decade later in Manhattan – marrying Brazilian model Emely Fardo in 2020. He first saw her once in a boxing class at Rumble on West 23rd Street in Chelsea.

“I was trying to talk to her the day I met her, but I missed my chance, then she liked a photo of me on social media…and then I technically took the first step and I sent a direct message,” he said. “But she didn’t answer me for 10 days; she played me slowly.

The couple, who just moved to Miami Beach with their Aussie Doodle Miss Loulou Palmer, “would love to have kids” and have spoken of “potentially having another dog.”

When asked if he would like his kids to be in the dating franchise or play football, Palmer replied, “I would have to ask the boss. I’m super open to anything. I’d go for both, but I don’t know what the boss would say.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – Nearly two weeks after a shooting outside Wild Health Field left seven people injured, a Lexington man wants to share his side of the story.

Brandon Walker had been promoting his birthday party for weeks. Expecting at least 200 people, he decided to rent Lexington Legends Stadium for the event.

“To be honest with you I thought it would be safer to be there because in the city center there always seems to be something going on there so I was trying to get people out environment, take them to Legends Stadium, and show them something different,” Walker said.

Prior to the event, Walker signed a rental agreement. He told LEX 18 that the contract outlined security measures, including security at Wild Health Field with Lexington Police.

LEX 18 requested the contract, but Legends staff said they could not release information due to the ongoing investigation into the shooting. Lexington Legends CEO and President Andy Shea said the promise of on-site police is not an accurate description of their deal with Walker.

Lexington Police protocol prevents them from providing security at private events, they can only patrol the area.

Walker described the event as growing well beyond the 200 people he expected. As attendees poured into the parking lot, he said the security he had been promised was nowhere to be found. From his perspective, the growing crowds outside the stadium warranted additional policing and security.

“I said all I wanted was for there to be no problems…five minutes later here comes the shots,” Walker recalled.

Lexington police responded to the call of the shots at 2 a.m. When they arrived outside Wild Health Field, seven people were injured and were heading to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Walker told LEX 18 he’s tired of being associated with what he calls failure in the name of security.

“I don’t want my name on stuff like that, you know, my love and my prayers go out to the women who have been hurt,” Walker said.

Shea confirmed that a third-party private security company had been hired for the event. He also claimed that no security concerns were ever raised by those organizing the event.

Lawrence O’Donnell said on Tuesday that Justice Aileen Cannon’s order granting Donald Trump’s request for documents seized at Mar-a-Lago is an unofficial bid for the next Supreme Court vacancy under a Republican president.

Cannon on Monday accepted the argument made by Trump’s lawyers that a special master should be appointed to sift through the documents, looking for those protected by solicitor-client privilege – even if the Justice Department said at the end of last month that he already did.

“Well, thanks to Donald Trump and the Republican Party embracing Trumpian ways, we now know, tonight, the name of the next Republican nominee for the Supreme Court of the United States,” O’Donnell said during the opening of its 10 p.m. show. Cannon, he said, “publicly applied for the post of Supreme Court justice, writing, yesterday, in a 24-page notice.”

Cannon’s order was criticized by legal experts, with O’Donnell adding that it “has no connective tissue with preexisting legal research in America.” Instead, he said, Cannon “just made it up.”

Cannon, a Trump appointee, also wrote that involving a third party would help prevent Trump from suffering “reputational damage.” O’Donnell took aim at this piece in particular.

“One of the most absurd notions in his order giving Donald Trump everything he asked for is the idea that a future indictment of Donald Trump, based on this evidence, ‘would lead to reputational damage’. “, did he declare. “The only way Donald Trump could suffer reputational damage is if the evidence contained child pornography, which it certainly does not. You cannot suffer damage to your reputation if you have already destroyed your reputation.

The MSNBC host then referenced, among other things, Trump making a silent payment to porn star Stormy Daniels, his 2005 comment on how women let him grab them “by the pussy and the $25 million settlement after Trump University students sued, alleging fraud.

“Sometimes a judicial opinion is about the law and the constitution, not about the author of the opinion,” O’Donnell said, citing the Supreme Court’s unanimous decision ordering President Richard Nixon to turn over documents to the special prosecutor who is investigating him.

Not so with Cannon’s order, he continued, comparing it to a plot point in the 1972 film. The Godfather.

“The day came when Donald Trump needed a service from Judge Aileen Mercedes Cannon. And she did. It’s history.

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Officials have said Labor Day weekend is one of the deadliest times on the road, and police have stepped up patrols for the holiday weekend to enforce tolerance zero for drunk driving.

For many people, Labor Day weekend is a time to spend with family and friends and enjoy the long weekend. But police and transport officials are reminding people that this is also a time when celebrations could turn into tragedies.

Check out more Hawaii news

Throughout the holiday weekend, police in every county will clog the roads and set up DUI checkpoints to remove drunk drivers from the road.

Honolulu Police Capt. James Slayter said, “We have so many traffic division officers out there, you know, trying to protect our roads. We will therefore have a very increased presence in appearance. So the agents are going to be there, we’ll have multiple sobriety checkpoints across the island. »

HPD officers made at least 22 impaired driving arrests between Friday and Saturday. The department also partners with organizations such as Mothers Against Drunk Driving to share the traffic safety message with drivers.

Theresa Paulette, victim specialist at MADD Hawaii, said: “We know impaired drivers are out there. And we need law enforcement to try to catch them before there is a fatal accident.

Paulette said all crashes involving impaired drivers are preventable.

According to Honolulu police, there have been a total of 56 critical and fatal crashes on Oahu so far this year, up one fatality from the same time last year.

Slayter said: “These are preventable. They are preventable. If someone had just been a little more responsible.

Officials are reminding people to plan a safe return home before any celebration. Paulette said making sure no one is buzzing behind the wheel is part of being a good party host.

She said: “It would be great if they spoke to their guests and put it in their invitation about, hey, we’re going to serve alcohol. And you know, please plan ahead, let us know what your plans are.

Evarts will host Rock the Block on Saturday

The town of Evarts is the site of a Labor Day weekend celebration, with Evarts Tourism’s Rock the Block event scheduled for Saturday, September 3.

Most of the day’s activities will take place in the Evarts Town Hall parking lot in downtown Evarts.

Evarts Town Clerk Kristi Lamb talked about some of the attractions available for young and old at Rock the Block.

“It’s been about five years since the last one,” Lamb said. “It’s a Labor Day block party, starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday.”

Lamb said the event, organized by Evarts Tourism, will feature many different activities and attractions for people who come for the party.

“They’re going to have food vendors and craft vendors,” Lamb said. “There will be games for children with prizes. They are also selling Evarts Fire Department tickets with a chance to get a 65” TV which will be won via raffle at the Cops 4 Kidz event in December.

The event will also include a dipping booth, face painting and live music.

“There will be three musical acts,” Lamb said. “The headliner will be Midnight Rider.”

Midnight Rider is a five-piece band that performs a variety of energetic music including classic rock, southern rock, and country. Midnight Rider will take the stage at 5 p.m.

There will also be a duck race featuring dozens of artificial ducks floating towards a finish line to determine the winner.

“Tickets are $5 each,” Lamb said. “We have 100 (artificial) ducks. They will go from point A to point B.

Lamb explained that the tickets will have a number between 1 and 100 on it. The ticket holder with the winning duck number on their ticket will win the cash prize, which could be up to $1,000 depending on the number of tickets sold.

“Tourism will match the winning pot,” Lamb explained. “If all 100 tickets are sold, that’s $500, and tourism will match that $500. So there is a chance that someone could win up to $1000 on the dfucking race.

Lamb said the duck race has been popular at previous Labor Day events.

“When they first started having the Labor Day festivals, they had a duck race for three or four years,” Lamb said.

In addition to the duck race, there will be cornhole tickets available for $10 for teams, Gemstone Mining tickets are $5, and the Dunking Booth will be $5 per try. Other kids’ activities, including face painting, are free.

On-site vendors will include Pizza Hut, Snow Bunnies Snow Cones, the Wallins Ladies Auxiliary BBQ, Just Peachy Bakery and many more.

“We want the whole community to be involved,” Lamb said. “We want people who come here from out of state to ride mountain bikes or attend the Labor Day meeting. Everyone should go out and have fun.
