J and Greene Family Camp to Host JFAM Family Camp Weekend

The Evelyn Rubenstein JCC and URJ Greene Family Camp are teaming up for a fun, family-friendly weekend of music, games, art, sports and Chanukah. A JFAM family camp weekend is a chance to be together as a family, enjoy activities, and make new friends with aligned values. The retreat, to be held Dec. 2-4, exposes families who have one or more children under the age of 8 to a new way to joyfully access Judaism through rituals and customs.

“This weekend will be filled with great experiences,” said Kachel Kohnhorst, GFC Deputy Director, Family Retreats and Staff Engagement. “There will be bouncy houses, arts, great food and more. We hope you will join us in Bruceville.

The weekend will feature artist-in-residence, Melita, founding member of Octopretzel, a popular Bay Area children’s group. Melita’s music will appeal to people of all ages. Campers will have the opportunity to sing with her in a singing session, hear her music during Shabbat morning services, and take a family yoga class with her.

Families will also learn how to celebrate Chanukah in fun and creative ways. Activities include decorating and filling your own sufganiyot, making your own Chanukah candles, games, learning through adult education and social time, participating in child-centered experiences and a fun GLOW Chanukah dance party. Of course, there will be plenty of latkes.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Greene Family Camp this weekend,” said Andrea Wolfe, Family Engagement Program Coordinator at The J. “Our hope is that families will come out of this weekend with new friends, new customs and rituals and a memorable weekend of Jewish values and a unique and one-of-a-kind experience.”

The all-inclusive weekend includes food, activities, and accommodation. Accommodation includes items such as Pack-n-plays, monitors, private accommodation, high chairs and linens.

JFAM Family Camps staff believe that every Jewish family belongs in Family Camp and seek to warmly welcome all family structures, families whose members do not identify as Jewish, families of all races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, identities gender groups and families with disabled children and/or adults.
