Brittany Cherry of DWTS and SYTYCD marries Brian Agnew

Dancing with the stars and So you think you can dance alum Brittany Cherry is officially off the market!


PEOPLE can exclusively confirm that the 28-year-old professional dancer tied the knot with Netflix Business Affairs’ Brian Agnew in front of 80 guests on Sunday afternoon at the La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla, Calif.


The couple met through american idol alum Stefano Langone while a band member on DWTS in 2017. Langone was living with Agnew at the time and introduced the pair. Although the timing wasn’t on their side, they reconnected later that year and in 2020 the 33-year-old proposed to Cherry while on a drive through Malibu Canyon.

Regarding her wedding dress, the come dance with me the star listened to her instincts and knew exactly what she wanted.


“I’m a ballroom dancer and because I’ve worn all these beautiful dresses and gowns all my life,” Cherry, who also starred in Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” music video, told PEOPLE exclusively. . “I really wanted something timeless, elegant, classy and not too embellished. I found a really nice dress and I was like, ‘Oh, that’s pretty, but I’m still not sure .””


“So I’m going to live my life – moving on to when I’m dress shopping and I go to four different stores and I see this same dress in a few stores and I’m like, ‘Oh, that’s so pretty. I’m going back to Kinsey James [in West Hollywood] and try on all the dresses you can imagine. I was always like, ‘Ah, this dress is so perfect,’ and so I ended up going with the dress I found a year earlier.”


The groom chose his own custom green suit from Klein Epstein and Parker to go with their simple yet elegant theme.


“Our colors are pretty simple,” Cherry shares. “Being creative and having been in production and having a creative vision, [I] was super special. I really wanted it to be timeless and stylish and I wanted to be able to look at my photos and not be able to tell what time of day it was. Everything is very classy and my colors are black and white.”

The place also has a special meaning for the couple, which makes it a no-brainer to choose the location to say “I do”.


“La Jolla Cove is so special to us,” adds Cherry. “We have been to this area many times and each time we have been able to create amazing memories, so we thought it would be a beautiful place to get married and for all of our family to visit.”


“Hotel La Valencia is a historic building in La Jolla and it’s beautiful. It’s like old Hollywood. It’s a pink hotel and it just screams chic, fun and vibrant. We really wanted to have a place where we could just party with our friends and family and really celebrate because it’s going to be the first time everyone’s been together and been able to party since the whole pandemic.”

Being big foodies themselves, they couldn’t help but make sure the menu was perfect.


“We wanted a good dinner for us and our guests,” Cherry said of the food served by the hotel. “[We had] this delicious filet mignon with this pile of potatoes and some vegetables, chicken jidori on the bone. It just melts in your mouth. I really think we just wanted to prioritize delicious food.”


Since music and dancing brought them together in the first place, they knew it had to play a big role in their evening.


“Brian practiced Leonardo DiCaprio’s move in The wolf of Wall Street“, shares Cherry. “I really wanted our first dance to be us, really us, and the way we are and encapsulates how we are together. We [didn’t have] a choreographed dance, but dance[d] to Elvis Presley’s ‘Love Me Tender’. It’s a super special song. When Brian and I reignited in 2017, this song was playing and it just smelled like kismet. It was super early and it played and it was a tender moment that we shared and that song, it’s always been so special to us. We [had] his groomsman’s dad sings the song live.”

A pregnant Jenna Johnson made the day special, but because Dancing with the stars premieres the day after the wedding, many of her colleagues were unable to attend due to camera-blocked rehearsals.


The couple will save their big European honeymoon after the end of the season where Cherry will serve as backstage choreographer to the pros. “We’re going to be staying in San Diego, I think two nights after the wedding and just hanging out and relaxing and being able to put more wind in our sails to go traveling and exploring.”

Long Stem Disco took care of the flowers for the festivities while VG Bakery took care of the cake. Her wedding planner Brenda of Benny & Blaire in San Diego came to help with the big day, where the couple sneaked into a special cellar after the ceremony to celebrate on their own before joining their guests to dance the night away. .


“[Tobin James Winery] gave us a bottle of champagne and everyone signed it and we kept that bottle of champagne all these years,” says Cherry. “After the ceremony, we [snuck] away from a nice little cliff nearby and pop the bottle of champagne and share[d] this really special moment first, our first moment together as husband and wife.”


“I’m so excited to be married to him and he really is just my best friend and the most amazing person in my life,” Cherry added. “I’m so excited for the life we’re about to build together.”
