Back to School Bash held for Floyd County students and families

PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WYMT) – The City of Prestonsburg held its 2022 Back to School event Saturday at Archer Park. The first time the event has taken place since the start of the pandemic and with some changes.
“Now with COVID, and this is our first year back after two years away, things have changed a bit,” said Rebial Reynolds, Principal of Prestonsburg Primary School FRYSC “Our district is able to provide school supplies for our children, so they decided this year, instead of school supplies, we would do basic necessities.
Since the announcement that the Floyd County School District is purchasing free supplies for all students, those who attended the Back to School Party received several items and services that would help their students prepare before heading to school. class.
“Kids can come in for their physical, we have body washes, loofahs, free haircuts for those who need haircuts, deodorant, we have lots of things the kids can use whatever throughout the school year,” said event organizer Izzy. Ramsey.
While this event helps families and students prepare, it is also a celebration for the upcoming school year.
“It’s wonderful to see all of these people and to see all of our families together, to be outside, to be able to celebrate the start of the new school year,” Reynolds said.
There were also inflatables, food, and more family fun at the event. Help the community connect with each other.
“The city, you know, our county has been through a lot,” Ramsey said. “We want everyone to have a good time and you know, be really connected.”
Reynolds added that it is one of the most important events held throughout the county all year, and with the recent economic turmoil, many families in the district are in desperate need of it.
