Here’s a look at what’s happening at local Hancock County libraries.
Encanto Fiesta in Fortville
FORTVILLE – Mark your calendar for a magical Madrigal party with songs and crafts from the Disney movie “Encanto.” The Township of Fortville-Vernon Public Library will host an Encanto Fiesta from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, May 14 at the Fortville Community Center, 400 W. Church St., Fortville. Participate in Encanto-inspired crafts, songs, dances and stunts, but don’t talk about Bruno! All ages are welcome; no registration required. Star Wars day is coming
GREENFIELD – “May the Fourth Be With You” in upcoming Star Wars themed events at the Hancock County Public Library.
Star Wars Day will be celebrated at 4 p.m. on May 4 for children in grades K-12; costumes are encouraged. The event will be held at the Main Library Branch, 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. Register at hcplibary.org under the Events tab.
Jedi-in-training can also pick up a craft at the Main Branch or the Sugar Creek branch of the library. Teens and tweens can pick up a DIY Baby Yoda plush starting May 9 while supplies last.
Art, planned activities for children
GREENFIELD — Several free programs are offered for children and teens in May at the Hancock County Public Library.
The main branch, 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield, will host a Bugs and Butterflies craft at 5 p.m. on May 10. A free Lego build event will take place at 3:30 p.m. on May 18. A Seek and Find Mystery event is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on May 23. Teen Rock Painting is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. on May 19, while Teens Throw Things is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. on May 24.
The Sugar Creek branch will also host several programs. Minecraft Selfies will premiere at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on May 12. A painting night for teens and tweens will be held at 4 p.m. on May 17. Scheduled adult book clubs
GREENFIELD — Hancock County Libraries are hosting book clubs and programs for adults in May.
“The Plot” by Jean Hanff Korelitz will be discussed at 7 p.m. May 5 at the Fortville-Vernon Township Public Library, 625 E. Broadway St., Fortville. Visit www.fvtpl.org to learn more.
Sandy Miller will lead a discussion on Etaf Rum’s novel “A Woman Is Not a Man” in a brown bag book discussion at 10:00 a.m. May 10 at the Main Branch of the Hancock County Public Library , 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. A Bring Your Own Book Club is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on May 24. Visit www.facebook.com/groups/byobookclub for details.
The main branch of the library will also host the Writers Helping Writers workshop at 6 p.m. on May 18.
