Photos show Cawthorn wearing lingerie at apparent party: Politico
(The hill) – Two photos of Republican Rep. Madison Cawthorn (NC) shared with Politico show the embattled congressman at what appears to be a party in women’s lingerie.
The political outlet reported obtaining the photos from a person who was previously close to Cawthorn and his campaign. Another person who was once close to Cawthorn confirmed the photos.
Cawthorn is a controversial figure in the Republican Party. He had previously accused colleagues in Congress of inviting him to orgies. Cawthorn told John Lovell, host of the “Warrior Poet Society” podcast, that lawmakers invited him to orgies and took cocaine in front of him.
He also recently called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a “thug” amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Zelensky has won international acclaim for his leadership amid the crisis in Ukraine, and he has vowed to stay in the country fighting with his people.
The accusations prompted a harsh response from his own party, with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) chastising him for his comments.
Cawthorn acknowledged the photos in a tweet on Friday, saying they were from a cruise vacation and were taken before he ran for Congress.
“I guess the left thinks goofy vacation photos at a game on a cruise (taken way before I ran for Congress) are going to hurt me somehow? ” said Cawthorn.
“They’re out of things to throw at me…” he added.
The photos also come after Cawthorn took to the House earlier this month to share his definition of a woman, alleging Democrats are waging a “war on biology.”
Cawthorn defined a female as having “XX chromosomes, no tallywhacker”.
It’s unclear when the photos were taken, according to Politico. However, the outlet noted that the photos were most likely taken after 2014, as Cawthorn appears to be in a wheelchair.
He has been using a wheelchair since he was in a car accident and was paralyzed from the waist down.
Cawthorn faces a primary against several Republicans, with Sen. Thom Tillis (RN.C.) throwing his support behind Cawthorn’s opponent, State Sen. Chuck Edwards (R).
