We all need a little Christmas Cowee!
It’s that time of year again when we think about the holiday season and wonder how we’re going to spread some Christmas cheer while creating meaningful memories. The 7e Cowee’s annual Christmas event to be held on Saturday, December 4th at Cowee School Arts & Heritage Center (51 Cowee School Drive, Franklin) ticks all the boxes to put us in a festive mood with a one-stop-shop for decorations and gifts. gifts, activities / crafts for kids, photo ops and live entertainment by local musicians. The activities will take place both inside the school and on the outdoor grounds. The mask will be compulsory to enter the school.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., these tenants and vendors of the Cowee School Arts & Heritage Center will be open where we can find that special gift or learn more about the culture of our historic district:
Cowee Textiles – Weaving, needle felting and hats by Teresa Bouchonnet
Jon Houglum Art and Painting Workshop – Oil landscapes and painting lessons
The mountaineer – Handcrafted woodworking, leatherworking and soaps
Cowee Pottery School – Pottery classes and studio classes shot and handcrafted
Alarka Expeditions – Outdoor excursions and cultural events
Down Memory Lane Toy Museum – Huge collection of toys spanning decades
Cynthia Kinard Heritage Portrait – Oil paintings and watercolors and portraits
From a little later at 12 p.m. until 3 p.m., children and families will have the opportunity to do FREE manual and hands-on activities such as making evergreen garlands, decorating cookies with Grandma’s Kitchen, sewing a small bag with Smoky Mountain Quilters Guild and making tree decorations with the Folk Heritage Association of Macon County (FHAMC). In addition, there will be other special events such as the face painting of Mary Bennett (sponsored by the Macon County Arts Board), and photo ops featuring the antique Franklin Fire Department engine. , the Cowee Fire Department and Wayne English and their friends and their vintage cars. that are sure to produce smiling faces. To complete the holiday enchantment, these local musicians will perform between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.: Wyatt Duvall, The White Sisters, The Lady and the Tramps and Richard Tichich.
With all of these Christmas sights and sounds on offer at the event, the senses of taste and smell should not be overlooked! The Women’s History Trail (an FHAMC project) will sell homemade festive cookies and hot drinks to benefit their annual student scholarship and FRESH BALM PILLOWS AND SWAGS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE FOR THE BENEFIT OF COWEE SCHOOL.
