Morocco to host 5th African regional conference on water management
The International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) will organize its 5th African Regional Conference and the 72nd Meetings of the International Executive Council (IEC) in Marrakech from 23-30 November.
The event will be organized by the Moroccan National Committee ICID (ANAFIDE) in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests.
The event aims to improve the Moroccan experience in irrigated agriculture with the national and international scientific and technical network of ICID. It also aims to develop South-South cooperation exchanges for sustainable development in Africa, the event organizer said in a joint statement.
Theme of the event
The conference will focus on the theme “Sustainable management of irrigation for improved resilience of agriculture in Africa” and will cover a wide range of topics: water scarcity, irrigation, water management of irrigated areas and impact. of climate change. .
The program of the event will revolve around numerous meetings and workshops during which young African and non-African professionals will have the opportunity to meet seasoned experts in their respective fields and benefit from their vast knowledge and experiences.
The President of ICID also said that “the event will devote a good part of the program to the discussion of African regional problems, as well as possible solutions and relevant approaches”. In addition to a strong Moroccan presence, the event will feature delegations from forty countries, five continents and international organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the United Nations.
